Ethical Giving

We’re being urged on all sides to reduce our carbon footprints and demonstrate a greater concern for the environment. From switching off lights and turning down the thermostat to eating organic food and using chemical-free cleaning products, there are hundreds of suggestions out there for reducing our personal impact on the world and easing our green conscience. The latest trend to hit the eco-scene is green giving, with an increasing number of outlets providing carbon neutral and ethical gifts for weddings, birthdays and other special events. If you’re looking for a great gift with a green twist, here are some of the options you can choose from.

Giving greenery: Bring a little green into somebody else’s life by sending them a twist on a traditional gift. Seed packets, chosen according to the recipient’s tastes and capacities, make an exceptionally thoughtful present, while ready-grown plants, trees or shrubs can constitute an attractive addition to their garden or home. If you’re buying for somebody who isn’t green fingered then you could opt for a delivery from Interflora instead, who offer next day delivery on flowers ordered online, or you could demonstrate your eco credentials by investing in tree planting to offset their emissions for a year.

Naturally beautiful: Bath products and makeup make great gifts for anyone, and the growing number of organic and fair trade ranges out there mean that it’s easier than ever to be both ethical and beautiful. When buying as a gift, opt for plant-based products and those which haven’t been tested on animals. There are ethical ranges to suit all budgets, so you needn’t spend a fortune either.

Gourmet foods: Fancy giving something that will make that special someone’s life a little sweeter? Instead of opting for off the shelf chocolates, put a little more thought into your choice. An organic hamper from your local farmers market will be pesticide free as well as low in food miles – and fair trade chocolate, while a little more expensive than the regular kind, is ethically sourced. The likelihood is that organic, fair trade food will taste better as well as giving you moral brownie points.

Charitable gifts: If your recipient is ethically minded, then make them smile with a gift that benefits a charitable institution. Adopt an animal from an organisation like WWF or purchase your very own acre of rainforest. If you’re looking for a slightly more substantial gift, support your local museum by buying from their gift shop. The Natural History Museum offers a range of presents including vases made from recycled glass, shoulder bags composed of old crisp packets, and even a perfectly packaged gift of elephant and reindeer dung. You really can’t get much greener than that.

Do you like my website?  Need help creating your own?

Please let me know of any mistakes, confusions or frustrations you encountered...I like to rectify anything I can!

Wales - Welsh National Flag The Red DragonWebsite building was just one of the steep learning curves I surmounted when setting up my business.  This is a basic but very simple site to set up and use.  There are a great variety of basic designs, this was my preferred format.  If YOU also want a website, I also offer help in either creating a site with you, or training you to do so (which would take 2-10 hours depending on your current skill level).
